The Prince has reared his ugly head and I have an electrical question. I
have been having alternator problems finally resulting in a continuous
red light in my 72-B. I replaced the alternator with one from a 75 with
higher amp output but had no red light at all when I turned on the key. I
checked and I had 12v with the ignition on on the wire from the switch to
the alternator (appears to go through the bulb) and 12 v on the wire from
the battery but no red light and no output from the alternator. As I was
not sure which of the three terminals on the 75 alternator went where
(the plug has a large spade connector in the center for the output and a
smaller one on either side) as the plug can go on the back either way. So
I turned the plug around and still no light but lots of output from the
alternator. No for the real question. Everything electrical works better
than ever before. I can actually see at night now as my lights are so
much brighter. The turn signals blink at a reasonable rate and all is
fine except I am concerned with the voltage output from the alternator. I
get around 14 v on idle but when reved to above 2000 rpm, this goes up to
over 15 v. Is this of concern? Will it cause problems in the long run?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
