Limey dates back 200 years or so, as stated earlier in the thread. The
military merely picked up the old expression, which was accurately attributed
to the British discovery that citrus (limes) combated scurvy. 
What I want to know is why, in typical Brit fashion, they went for the very
tart lime instead of the more edible oranges etc?
