I've often contemplated the same thing myself. I have no direct experience
but I did come across the following in the current Moss Motors price list.
I know automotive batteries are classified in groups. A specific group
meets criteria for physical dimension and capacity. The blurb in the price
list flogging their battery box liners says that with one of these liners
you can convert a dual six volt system tyo a single " Group 21 or 26" 12
volt battery. I would think that any manufacturers battery in one of those
groups will do what you want.
