Not yet! Lotus was put on the market by the former owner of Bugatti
(whose name escapes me). There were negotiations for a takeover by
Daewoo which foundered a couple of weeks ago. The rumour is that
some of the big Western car manufacturers saw the purchase as a threat
(Lotus does a lot of secret development work for a number of
companies) and did their best to put the brakes on. However none of
them has come forward with a firm rescue proposal, so
Daewoo remains a possibility.
