Nicholas--check the battery voltage. It sounds as if you're not fully
charging. This would account for the ignition lite, and teh failure to
start. Battery voltage should be 13.5 vdc. Check the coil. You may have a
defective coil and not getting a good solid spark. Take the HT lead off the
distributor and hold the cable end 1/2" from a good ground. Grasp the cable
end with a pair of insulated pliers and crank the engine with the ignition on
. You should get a powerful spark across the gap. If not, replace coil.
Replace the points; maybe replace the plugs; replace teh coil wires. These
kinds of problems don't happen necessarily happen one at a time. You may be
experiencing several intererated problms at the same time. Hope this all
