If the problem is the head gasket again, chances are that the block and the
head should be resurfaced before a new head gasket is installed.  would also
recommend new head studs & nuts.

You didn't mention how much the car was selling for, but it seems like you
have a new bargaining position.  Drop your offer by $1200 bucks and see if
you can pick the car up cheap.
