yes ... the MGB 3 main bearing engine/tranny (18G/18GA)
has the same diameter first motion shaft and crankshaft
bush as the MGA engine/tranny ... the MGB 5 main bearing
engine/tranny has a larger first motion shaft and crankshaft
bush so either a smaller diameter bush must be made or
the the larger diameter first motion shaft must be fitted to
the MGA tranny ... the MGB tranny can be used but the
rear mounting is different and MGA rear gearbox extension
must be fitted in place of the MGB along with the speedo
drive gear.

In either case a clutch plate with the proper number of
splines, to match the first motion shaft, has to selected.

The larger MGB starter should be used but fitting requires
that the floor be modified.

The larger MGB water pump should be retained but will
require that the radiator to be spaced 5/16" further forward
... if the MGA water pump is used then the correct pulley
must be fitted to keep the fan pulley in line ... and the
MGA generator will need to fitted if the MGB engine was
fitted with an alternator.

An extractor type exhaust header should be fitted as the
stock MGA header is to restrictive and the MGB header
requires too much modification to fit.

The MGA air cleaners are used to eliminate clearance
problems associated with the MGB air cleaners.

The MGA thermostat housing will need to be fitted ...
and as discussed an electronic tach will have to fitted.
(Note: these last two are only if the 5 main bearing engine
is used <g>)
