Well, there seems to be a common denominator.

1. Use only Castrol/Girling, etc. or live in shame for the rest of my life.

2. Use dot 3 if you want to destroy your brake system.

3. Use dot 4 it is less damaging than dot 3.

4. Use dot 5 if you want to bleed your brakes a little more often and have
maybe a few less problems than dot 4, no gaurantee.

Dot 4 and dot 5 seem to have floated to the top of the brake fluid question.

I think I'll go with dot 5 but apparently, not knowing what exactly is in my
car now, I have to do a total flush and risk having some of the rubber parts
eaten up with the new dot 5, maybe. Sounds like it doesn't matter what I
use, it'll eat up the parts anyway. Lots of frequent bleeding in my future.

Honey, OK, now pump the pedal 5 time real fast, firm and full strokes
then hold, then say OK when your holding, and don't let up off the
pedal until I tell you when, even after the pedal sinks to the floor....

                                                                        Soun
d familiar?
