Well, it's beginning to seem as if my first (worst)suspicions are true
regarding my new (used) O.D. tranny. As a refresher, I installed a O.D.
tranny in my 77B. At first, the first 200 miles or so were a joy. Then
very suddenly, I developed problems shifting into 2nd, from 1st, or most
noticeably from 3rd. Just had the car road tested by my local LBC
mechanic. He feels that in all likelihood that the problem is with the
2nd gear synchro. I went with him on the road test, and the problem was
evident even when double clutching. This, and the sudden way that the
problem developed, he feels, indicates a cracked, as opposed to a worn
synchro.

I trust this guy, but also recognize that he isn't right "all the time".
The tranny oil was down less than a quart (and was topped up - no
improvmentnoted), and the clutch fluid is full. Can anyone out there
think of another explanation for this problem, that I can check before
committing to pulling the tranny again?

Regards,

Chris Delling
