Interesting.  I've always been told that the head gasket is the only
one that goes on dry.  Clean, true faces and a clean, dry gasket.
I've done this with 2 head gaskets on my Midget with no problems.  1st
one was replaced because the one on it blew right after I got it.  2nd
one was replaced because I had pulled the head to be sent to the
machine shop.  It's still there.  YMMV
