My first guess would be wrong or upside down head gasket blocking a
critical passage. This happened to me on my first engine rebuild, but I
blocked an oil passage and chowed my 76 Audi Fox's head. On the maiden
voyage with the girlfriend no less! (I was 17) I'm not that familiar
with the B, but how's the belt tension?

Yours,
Dave
