Well, Scott, there were two ways. The first, and most popular, was an
electrical switch under the rocker panel. A carefully (and sneakily
applied) toe would open the door to admiring stares from girls in poodle
skirts. The second, and definitely high-tech for the age, was a magnet
operated deal. If you applied your COATED magnet (no scratches that way)
to the proper spot on the door, the door would open. It could be best
described as a two part solenoid. That got 'em breathing hard. Had a
'50 Merc, w/ blue dot tail lights, Porter glass pack mufflers, 3
Stromberg 97's, etc., etc., Jeez, suddenly I feel really old. Time for
a snifter of Geritol with a water back.
