I bet you never knew Lord Lucas made oil filters!  This didn't work
because you neglected to bury a dead cat under an oak tree on the night
of the full moon.  Now you're going to have to sell your soul to the oil
filter demons.  

Then get out your chisel and jam it into what remains of the filter and
pound it around (counter-clockwise) until it comes off.  Be careful not
to damage the mounting surface.
