MGB questions

I'm on my 7th and 8th MGs (52 TD and 68 B) and seek advice on the MGB:
(1) Is there a simple retrofit 5 speed transmission ?- I hate to continue
running the engine at such high revs on the highway. 
(2) Years ago I tried coil over shocks on a B.  The only significant thing
that happened is that they came loose.  What is the recent experience ?  Are
they better ?  Do they improve shock control ?
