My guess is that you  have a worn master cylinder.  When these wear 
enough, the fluid seeps past the rubber parts backwards and does not go
into the line as intended.  Make sure the clevis pins and the push rod
ends are not worn.  If there is even just a little wear, your clutch
will not act right.  Whatever you do, don't fall into the trap of
welding a little more on the end of the clutch slave cylinder push rod. 
This works briefly but will end up causing you more trouble.
