I know it stands for "new old stock".  As for what that actually 
MEANS, I'm a little bit fuzzy.  I think it refers to parts that were 
made when the car was new, and not modern reproductions.  So, a NOS 
wire wheel might be a desirable part, where a NOS tire would be 
something to avoid...
