One more advantage:

I once had a VW bug with a big-bore kit and two barrel carb.  The
muffler rusted off the extractor (VW excuse for a header) one day, and
it was some time before I was able to scrounge up the change for a
replacement.  

Concidentally, in our apartment building, the people below us would play
very bass-ey disco music at odd hours.  My parking stall was directly
under them, and for the longest time, I found I had to warm the car up
with full choke for quite some time before I felt comfortable starting
off for work.

Ah, youth.  Glad I survived.
