Thuoght this might be of interest. That is the reason why it takes 5..8
seconds before my oil pressure meter sayz "80".

Thanks John!

John,
In your story on "Oil pressure relief" you write:

"MGB owners with the "original" oil filter on 1968-69 engines are
cautioned to discard that entire filter assembly, replacing it with the
1970-1980 spin on style (Moss 460- 910) as the upright canister filter
is the WORST filter ever designed by MG!! "

What is so bad on these filters? I normally go for original, but for the
better I would change.......

Rene! Those filters fitted 1968->1969 use the best filter element
-- a felt canister style. However, because it is upright, the filter
drains during periods of dis-use (overnight) and upon starting the engine,
the bearings run without oil pressure for several seconds -- sometimes up
to 30 seconds! The spin-on filter with the factory filter, incorporating a
one way valve, does not drain back and you achieve pressure upon spinning
the starter motor! It is the longevity of the engine bearings, and the
horrible rattly sound upon starting that has led me to take this view.

I count a family named Esselstyn (originally van Ysselstyn) in my
ancestry.
