Scroll down to the maintenance handbook, click on that, then scroll down to
the electrical section. There are a couple of articles there dealing with
alternators that may help, in particular the article on how alternators work.
The introduction to alternator swaps for Triumphs has a description of the GM
alternator and its connections.

I have prepared instructions for the electrical details of the Lucas/GM swap
for several models of MGBs, so If you will tell me what year your car is, I
may have them to send to you.  Even though you already have the swap, they may
be of help.

The usual GM unit, with internal regulation, is the Delcotron SI, producing 55
amps or more.  These were used in GM cars in the '70s and early '80s.  The
typical Lucas produces about 28 to 45, depending on the model, the later
models producing the higher output.
