He uses contact cleaner from Radio Shack for cleaning a gun?? Oops,
I guess I quoted out of context. While the Radio Shack contact cleaner
(or color TV tuner cleaner) can't be beaten for availability, there
are many other better contact cleaners made by people such as Caig
laboratories and available from specialist electronics shops and
pro-audio retailers.
But, as has been said, it is better when possible to replace the
connectors. It is even better to keep them from corroding in the
first place.
I used Caig contact cleaner and an emory board to rejuvenate the
turn-signal/dimmer switch on my B. I'll see how good a job it did
when I return to the car in about a month.

DPO of my car was rather fond of twisting wires together and then
wrapping with electrical tape. Unfortunately, he replaced the wiring
harness. The headlight wiring was so corroded that I could not make
a good solder connection even after chopping several inches off the
ends in order to get to fresh wire. This is something I had never
encountered even in outdoor audio wiring (but then again most audio
gear is not as exposed to the elements as the area in front of the
radiator when an MGB is at speed).
