Despite the factory handbook saying that it is not necessary to use the
clutch when shifting into or out of overdrive, this (and Larry Hoy's
admitted similar experience) points up the benefit of the procedure I always
follow (based on many, many years of experience driving these things). When
you want to shift out of overdrive, lightly depress the clutch pedal as you
hit the switch. You'll be amazed at how much smoother a shift you get!

My LH OD kicks in fairly quickly and smoothly (about like an
automatic trans up-shift). Going back into direct drive takes
longer (though I've never timed it), and is much rougher. Don't know
how normal this is, since its the only overdrive I've ever driven.
