Agreed - they are badge engineered Austin Cambridges. But they are still kind
of interesting, and fairly rare for an MG, and worth saving.
A friend had a Cambridge with an MGB motor that was actually pretty decent.

If you want to play around with variants, though, I'd advise a Riley 1.5. They
are unibody, weigh within about 50 lbs of an MGB, already have the B series
engine (basically to MGA tune, so you can slot in a B engine, and have
Spridget style suspension, so can be converted to discs and good shocks etc.
Look unusual and perform well. Hard to find now, even up here in Canada, where
we probably got a few more than you guys in the States.
Almost as much fun as a Triumph Mayflower (anyone remember those?) with a TR 3
engine.
