So it may not have had a real tune-up in 25 years... that's cause for some
action.
When you say "flushing" the engine oil, do you mean more than an oil and
filter change?  Don't do it.  Some of the gunk that gets left over is
actually beneficial in clogging leaks.
Go over the brakes. Change the brake fluid for new.  Use DOT4. 
Check that ALL the hoses in the car are okay.  At this stage, I'd REPACE
every hose, just for safety's sake.  
Replace all the regular maintenance stuff, plugs condenser, rotor, all the
plug wires etc.
That should keep you busy for a while.
