I find WD-40 is useful for getting oil, tar and other stuff off.  Use
sparingly and carefully (and test on an inconspicuous area of paintwork
first).

Goo Gone is excellent for sticky tape residue and that grey gungy stuff that
accumulates on the gearknob and steering wheel.
