Thanks to all who made suggestions about checking things to determine if a
valve job was really needed. Well, after all the tests here is what was
found:
Compression (rounded to the nearest 5) was 120,115,115,120 (1 to 4)
All plugs were black and 2&3 were wet with gas when pulled
Rotor, cap, and wires all checked OK
Plug 1 had good spark, 2&3 no spark, and 4 weak intermittent.
Bad plugs!! Had put new Autolite platinum in less than 2000 miles ago, but
as soon as new Champion N-9Y's were installed, ran fine. Need to adjust
the carb (Weber DGV conversion by DPO) but otherwise seems to run good.
Any thoughts on why plugs would go bad that quickly? Wrong brand maybe?
