Hi Calvin,
I would remove the paint AND primer with a garden variety paint remover. You
will either want to protect the cars finish with tape OR you could remove the
windshield. It's a real easy job and you could inspect/replace the seals while
you're at it.
After you've removed all the paint, use a polishing compound to bring the
luster back to the aluminum. A few good coats of wax will finish it off.
I keep my car covered in the winter in the garage and in 6 years since it's
been finished, it's never lost it's luster.
I think the frames are sprayed with lacquer from the factory. I didn't like
the ugly dull color it turns when it ages, so I removed it in favor of this.
