I had this one happen to me last weekend - thought the bearing was shot
but it turned out to be the thread on the shaft - it took a heavy duty
air impact wrench to get the nut off but after cleaning the thread and
retightening whith the air wrench the alt was as good as knew.
Take it down to your friendly local shop and swap the use of the air
wrench for a couple of beers!!
