Actually, John Twist's article deals with replacing thrust washers which
Chris has already done. I've done all the same stuff on my '76 B and it
still has a slight clunk. And I too have noticed the same slight play in
the drive shaft spline and have also wondered if that could be a cause.
I've replaced everything else, tightened the shocks, replaced entire rear
suspension and all the bushings, U bolts, etc. The splines are old but the
wheels are new Daytons. U-joints do not appear to be at fault - I know
what happens when they do fail and this car doesn't vibrate at all.
So far, I just live with it - and it hasn't gotten any worse in about 45000
miles. I do have some spare drive shafts here and have thought about
swapping it out on a lark - but that's a lot of work for a potentially bad
guess. Any list wisdom out there for the two of us?
