I don't have any first hand knowledge of the MGA, but I might remind you that
you are looking to buy a car that is 38 years old. Chances are you will get
what you pay for.
If you want to do a restoration, save some money and buy a basket case for a
few hundred bucks. You are going to have to take it apart anyway.
I know, it's easier to put it back together if you take it apart yourself.
And you will know what parts are missing. But, you can buy a basket case for
$500. A car that isn't running but is together is a few thousand. It still
needs lots of parts replaced.
Okay, so you buy a great running MGA, that needs cosmetic work. When have
you seen a car that needs cosmetic work that didn't have LOADS of hidden
problems? A good running MGA that needs cosmetic work is what, $7,000 to
$9,000?
Okay, you decide to go all the way and buy the 99 point concours MGA. Now
you are up to $15,000. Wouldn't you rather put that money into fixing the
basket case so you know what you have?
