Hi!!

I have a 1980 MGB LE Federal US version with all smog gear intact with the
exception of a non-functioning air pump and a manual vs automatic choke.

I have been getting approximately 21 miles per US gallon while highway
driving.

When I pulled the plugs today, the tips of Nos 1 and 2 were light brown
and the tips of 3 and 4 were black and lighly carbonned.

If my car had SUs I would say that one carb was set richer than the
others. But alas, my Z-S feeds all fours cylinders at the same time. I
am going to do a compression check over the weekend.

Does anyone have any ideas why I would have two distinct plug tip
colourings?

Would totally desmoging my 1980 improve mileage? If I were to demog, what
tuning procedure and specs would I use? IS John Twist's treatse on
desmogging the best source of 'How to desmog'? Is there other guidance
available?

Have a great weekend.

Thanks

Preston
