I received the attached from this 16 Year old - does anyone have an
answer for him?  I don't think it's possible without a lot of extra work
- would probably be easier to take out the engine.

Hello.
I have emailed you to see if you would please answer a question for me.  
Here's the story:
I work on a farm part time, (I'm only 16) and I arranged a deal to trade my 
labor on an MG Midget for a Triumph TR7 that needs nothing but a little body 
work and some interior work.  One of the jobs was to remove the starter and 
replace it.  We found that the ring gear was extremely worn.  Do you know if 
there is any way we could unbolt the transmission, remove the drive shaft, 
and back it out of the engine from below?  That way we wouldn't need to 
remove the entire engine to replace the ring gear.  Thanks for your help.
