There's no where near 5 quarts of oil stuck to the outside of the engine.  
Some oil and other gunk always washes off a car when you wash it...even at 
automatic car washes that have an "undercarriage wash."  And all of the waste 
water in my neighborhood goes to a treatment plant, not directly into a creek.

I also think that car washes are required to filter the waste water in some 
way.  I don't own a car wash, but I hope the DIY types are complying with the 
law.

BTW, I always take my used engine oil, tranny fluid and antifreeze to be 
recycled.
