Hi Theresa,

Welcome to the fold! Your speedometer prob is most likely the cable
that drives it. It connects between a drive gear on the transmission
and the back of the speedo. The cable runs in a semi-rigid housing and
is lubricated in some fashion. when it becomes worn it sticks a bit in
the housing. When this happens it "wraps up" until it comes loose.
Then it "untwists" until the extra tension is dissipated. The upshot is
that the end at the speedo slows down and speeds up as the cable stick
and unsticks. That's what makes the needle bounce. The best cure,
IMHO, is to replace the entire cable assembly.

The other possibility is a bad or dry bearing in the speedo but that's
usually accompanied by a squealing noise from the speedo.

Boy, those Meth Hosp people sure can keep us on our toes! Kathy Elder
called us last Tue, said that "reading the Doc's notes" on Mac's chart,
it was apparent that he was going to be released from the hosp "in the
next couple of days." She went on to say that we needed to select a
place where he could get skilled nursing care and rehab. Also, it
needed to be Medicare certified. She also asked us whether we wanted to
transport him or have an ambulance do it.

So, we called Sid Pete soc svcs, got a list and brought you up to
date. I went down there to visit Later that day. Just missed Dr.
Sanderson. The nursing staff told me that the plan was to move Mac to
Sid Pete's skilled nursing care unit on Thursday and turn him over to
Dr. Graham's care.

Peg was going to try to see Sanderson yesterday when she went down but
wasn't able to get anyone at his office on the phone. I found a msg
from "Marcie" on the answering machine about 8:30 PM, saying that the
move to Sid Pete was all arranged for this morning and please return her
call. I didn't do so because I thought Peg had seen Sanderson and knew
all about it. So, when Peg got home at 11:30 PM we called the # Marcie
left. Turned out to be the ward desk. The nursing staff said that
there had been some new tests run and there was a small problem with
Mac's kidney chemistry, so the move had been put on hold until that was
straightened out.

I called back this morning at 10:30; the situation was unchanged. I
asked them to ask Dr. Sanderson to call Peg when he made rounds.

BTW, that's good news about Kat's tests. Should have said so sooner.
Did you tell her it rained up here?

I hadn't thought Mac would be in rehab for several months. I should
go and clean out the fridge, turn the water heater to pilot, etc, etc.
I still need to stop the paper. I'll call the cablevision office, see
if there is a contigency plan of some sort. You were right about the
cable bill being paid by draft (my face is red!). Much ado About
Nothing. ;^)

  Talk to you later.

  Rob

Peg planned to speak to Dr. Sanderson
