Hi Arnie:
Sure, Zeners are voltage regulators...can be used in parallel or series. A
resistor can be used also, but the lamp is already a resistor, so a voltage
drop of about 5V will give the lamp it's intended 8V +/- a volt or so.
Either will work. A
zener is a more precise voltage drop is all.
