Hi Tony,
We used to use something called "Cosmolene" years ago. It was essentially a
thick grease that we'd apply to the entire exterior. We'd sometimes wrap the
object with loosely woven cloth similar to cheesecloth. This would allow the
grease to ooze through and remain where you wanted it.
It was tough to remove, especially after sitting for a few years.
I would keep it away from interior parts of the engine. You could uae 90 wt
oil before you seal it.
