I would suggest using rubbing compound or a plexiglass cleaner/Polish.
Dishwasher detergent has abrasives in it and and is extremely caustic.  The
finish may have been dulled or even damaged by the detergent.

I too have put things in the dishwasher that aren't traditionally though of
as dishwasher type stuff (of course I would never let my wife know)
