Harlan,
  Can you suggest what bits would be needed for the kit?  My experience
at Radio Shack was that the two guys in there gave me those wan,
vacant-eyed, get-this-Troglodyte-out-of -here looks. Neither one had any
idea what a generator was (nor dynamo), and blanked again when Positive
Earth was mentioned.  RS may have the stuff, but they don't know where to
start looking for it.
  As the high tension wires are genuine copper wires,  I did install
resistor plugs. They helped a lot.  There is still some crackling that I
think is distributor noise, and the whine of the generator that drowns
out the radio.
