Aw, b'gosh, it's done all the time.  I put a MGB diaphram clutch in my MGA
1500 several years ago, started with a used pressure plate, then installed
a new competition pressure plate, later returned to the first used one, and
finally installed a new stock MGB unit.  They not only all fit, but I have
also swapped a couple of different engines between a few different
gearboxes and have still never had any interference problems.
