Don't know the specifics of a Sprite but on my MGB I used two tapered
wedges, one each side of the half-shaft between hub and back-plate bolt, and
tapped each alternately until the hub popped off.

Reminds me of the Navy instruction regarding the storage of shells that had
to be stored upside down.  The instruction concluded "The top shall be
marked 'Bottom' and the bottom marked 'Top'".
