Unfortunately the oil in the gearbox isn't the problem. It had 20/50 in
it and I added a quality brand 20/50 to it. The oil that was in it was
quite clean as well. I'm one of those persons who reads everything I
can get my hands on before attempting anything. I have several
reference books on MGs and specifically Midgets, including the reprint
of Leyland's original Workshop Manual. For the Midget, 20/50 is the
recommended lubricant, which is also used in the engine. So I'm
doubting that to be the problem, but thanks!
