For some reason, this was sent to me rather than mgs@autox.team.net.

     Subject: 79 MGB Trans problem

I'm a Triumph guy... so looking for some MG advice.

I was driving my (fairly recently acquired and put back on the road) 79
MGB tonight... the transmission has been flawless for many miles...
(maybe 1000 miles since I got the car)...

I stopped to go Xmas shopping... when I came back... I could not get
the stick to work... It felt real sloppy... I couldn't get it in
reverse... I couldn't seem to get it into any gear... playing around
with it.... seemed to make things worse... but in the end...I found I
was in a gear... (not that I could get out of it) and was able to limp
home on what turned out to be 3rd gear.

Question is.... anyone have this experience? What is your guess on the
cause? I'm thinking maybe the shifting arm inside the housing has
failed in some manner.... It just seems odd that the trans was
perfect... then this.

Now I can seem to move the shifter at all... though it is still in
3rd..

Please private or CC in private... your responses... thanks in
advance.
