Give them a chance, these have been cooked up in fairly short-order from the
existing 25, 45 and 75 saloon bodyshells.  New shapes, and particularly
purpose-built sports models ('convertible' in the UK means a saloon with the
top cut off and two girders welded underneath, the result being even less
sporty than the saloon), take money they haven't yet got.  If everyone
chooses to wait for a new sports car there never will be one.  The
popularity of the much-maligned Metro/Maestro/Montego took the planners by
surprise in the mid-80s, this time MG Rover are planning on some 25% of
total production for these derivatives.
