Greetings from Southern (well snowed) Ontario,

I've tried,last fall,to run my 80 L.E. with 1.5" thick round K&N Filter,
not to any satisfaction. The de-toxed engine runs very well without the
plumbing, the Z-S carb is very easy to set up ( Thanks Mr. Twist ). I just
decommissioned the dealer A/C, took alot of weight off with that and
reduced the circuit to one belt. The reason for my query, back in the fall
with the K&N filter installed the car moved well in 1st and 2nd, but in 3rd
you could feel the engine kind of gasp, losing a bit of speed, 4th I'm
double pumping the accelerator to get up to speed. Forget punching the
pedal for a bit of quick acceleration. The L.E. will do some nice quick
things with the stock air filter on. Is there a needle change required, or
do I richen the mixture to balance the greater air intake. I'ed like to
add a touch of pop to the car, I had hoped the K&N's would give it that
with just a "bolt on", but I think I'm missing something here.

Any ideas or experiences would be greaty appreciated.

Tonight, my favorite job, engine degreasing in a sub freezing garage. Will
take personal anti-freeze to job.

Thanks in advance,

Bob Holton
