Welcome! Sounds like a great project. I would think you are really going to
need a manual at hand to make any progress, although the Moss catalog is
actually a great free resource for determining which parts go with which
year. I recommend it, the Bentley manual, and for real specific detailed
info on year-to-year changes, the Clausager book "Original MGB".

Just to answer your question, the brake cover without the switch is correct
for 65. Your brake light switch is a pressure-sensing switch in the brake
line on the inner wing.
