  Simple answer, the wall of learning.

  Some people just "hit the wall" when learning, just
like a marathon runner who has gone too far. Then they
have no desire or courage to attempt anything new.

  You'd think people that like the challenge of
working on an LBC would delight in the new challenges
of working on a modern car, but instead they back
away.

  And, as always, fear has an ugly cousin called
prejudice, and suddenly "modern cars ain't no
damn good" and "modern cars ain't got no soul".

  Human nature may have some ugly sides but at least
it's consistent.
