My understanding is that the Opus system consists of two components - the
magnetic trigger on the points plate and some electronics elsewhere in the
dizzie body. I would imagine the Opus got its reputation from the frequent
failure of the electronics rather than the magnetic trigger, so replacing
the Opus trigger with a Pertronix one won't improve that reliability. The
other thing is that the Pertronix is designed to energise the coil directly,
not via more electronics, which may cause it to work differently (i.e. cause
problems) to normal or not at all.

I agree, it should be, but connected as the manufacturers intended i.e.
energising the coil directly.

I very much doubt the Pertronix will have any information relating to the
use of it with an Opus system. If you want to keep the Opus electronics you
will have to retain the coil and power supplies as they are or risk
destroying the unit or making it non-operational. You would also have to
work out for yourself how to connect the Pertronix to the input to the Opus
electronics and not the coil, and you would be on your own there.

As I see it you only have two options - retain the Opus as is with the
original coil and wiring; or use the Pertronix as the manufacturer intended
and disable the Opus system completely, with either coil.

There are also extracts of the ignition wiring diagrams on the web site
below, select 'Spanners', 'Electrics', 'Schematics' and 'Ignition'.
