Bob,
In carburetored engines the alcohol cleans out the crud that has built up in
the gas tank, lines and everywhere else and tends to foul up the
carburetors. Once you have rebuilt the carbs and the lines and tank are
clean you should have no more problems except your mileage will go down and
you may need to adjust the timing. This usually only happens the first year
that it's tried. We have it every winter now in Oregon, but the first year
cost me a bundle getting carburetors rebuilt on all my cars. I think the
extra filters on fuel injected engines takes care of the clean up problem,
but I'm not sure as we have had alcohol in the fuel every since my present
cars were built (except the B of course).

There's a lot of talk on TV about ramping up gasohol production (in the wake
of the middle east hostilities). I've been avoiding it, in my MGs. Does it
cause any problem in our old cars?
