I stand corrected. (That's what happens when you have a good memory -
just short, that's all).

I rechecked and found that on a '75 MGB with wire wheels, the socket I
use is a 1-3/8" with an outside diameter of no more than 1-7/8". Fits
perfectly.

does anyone know offhand what size spanner to use on the castellated nut
holding the rear wheel bearings onto a tube axle?

I want to go past the secondhand shop on my way home this afternoon and
forgot to measure the nut yesterday.
