This may sound real strange.... but working with not
wanting to buy tools just for a one time use.....

rope... a 5' long 2"x4"... a blanket... and a come-along.

Open the bonnet. Lay the blanket across the fenders
as a 'protector'. Lay the 2x4 across the fenders on top the blanket.
Tie the rope around the end of the 2x4 overhanging the fender
on the wheel you are NOT working on and tie it to that sides suspension.
Use the come-along on the end of the 2x4 over the wheel you ARE
working on and use it to pull the a-arm up to compress the spring.

clear as mud right!?!   :^)
