Hmmm... depends on how much water you dumped. If you flooded the cowl vent
you could easily get water into the heater box and fresh air vent -- where
do you think the air comes from? And of course, the box just below it is for
the defroster, and the air flap between them is not completely airtight, or
even remotely watertight. Just make sure the drain hole is clear by using a
probe of some type poking up from the bottom. But truly biblical volumes of
water are going to come through one way or another. I wouldn't try sealing
anything -- you may just set up a rust-through situation in the future.
As for the headlight trim, well, you may just need to get more violent. I
don't know, mine are apparently atypical, in that I can just grip them
around the periphery with my bare hands and rotate them, and pop them off
easily.
